Jiyu is a young woman of average height. She has waist-length, black hair styled in a "hime cut," and dark brown, nearly black, narrowed eyes. She has lightly tanned skin with patches of red scarring, the pattern and frequency of which is similar to vitiligo. These patches are typically covered up by bandages or clothing.

Jiyu's typical wardrobe consists of various plain t-shirts and loose, cropped jeans. She can also be seen wearing bulky work jackets in the winter. She usually wears sneakers.

Jiyu is a relatively friendly person, keeping amicable connections with most of her peers who describe her as 'laid-back.' However, she lacks any close friends due to the fact that she is extremely self-sacrificing and prefers to keep her thoughts to herself.

While Jiyu is adept at connecting with others, she is somewhat averse to social situations. She is afraid of accidentally letting something she meant to keep to herself slip.

Han Jiyu doesn't remember much of her childhood. She simply floated through her school years until she found herself with nothing other than a diploma in her hands. Determined to find purpose in life, Jiyu decided to buy a one-way ticket to the United States to attend university. This is where her story begins.

Han Jiyu, experiencing extreme social isolation throughout her life growing up in a small South Korean town, applied to several American colleges to attend after high school. She left her home behind for good to better her life.
